Meditation vs. Medication
Which is a better cure for depression: meditation or medicatoin? A very debatable topic that has positioned hippies (just kidding) against scientists for decades.
Over the years using medication to treat depression has become more and more popular in the eyes of psychiatrists. I mean if you truly think about it and I can bet that you know at least one person that is taking some sort of antidepressant right now. The increased usage will probably continue to rise as more and more clinical studies are published and more and more commercials are shown to make you realize how wonderful this new medicine really is. After all if you have seen any of the commercials you know that taking antidepressants means no more sweat pants or sad Sundays on the couch.
However many non-medically driven people believe that your body already possesses everything it needs to beat depression. Many believe that simply by taking the time to focus your energy on the present rather than focusing on past mistakes or worrying about the plans for the future you can reduce many of the symptoms of depression without putting any type of medicine into your body. They believe that a cleaner body means a healthier body which can often time be true.
In my opinion the answer to the debate is really to be determined by the person that applies it. For some a more spiritual solution to a problem is more useful than a medicinal solution while for others you will find the opposite. To each his own is what I say. If you have found a way to bring your life back together you should be proud because dealing with deprssion can be quite difficult and it takes a great deal of effort to overcome it whether you use medicine or meditation.
So what do you think is a better solution? Do you believe that doctors should be filling their patients with medicine every chance that they get, or is spending some time relaxing and focusing on the present better for depression. Please use the comments below to discuss your opinion.
